What Our Friends Are Doing

While enjoying their stay at Whaleview, many of our friends have also enjoyed seeing the sights of Warrnambool and the surrounding areas.

Board Walk

It is possible to walk from Whaleview to the Breakwater following the coastline, on a board walk for the most part. Details of other walks in and around Warrnambool can be found at www.warrnambool.gov.vic.au. Head for the Tourist section.

Pictured also is Middle Island, home to a Fairy Penguin Colony, but off limits to the public while a Marema dog protection trial is being carried out.
Liebig Street

Warrnambool is a shoppers paradise with good old fashioned country service combined with compeditive prices and up to the minute styles.  Most large chain stores are represented with some unique local venues. Christine can advise you where to go.
Tower Hill Wildlife Reserve

Tower Hill is a wild life reserve located in a dormant volcano 10 minutes drive from Warrnambool. Kangaroos, Emus, Koalas and a variety of water birds can be seen.  There are numerous walking tracks to suit all levels of fitness and a Information Centre to assist you.  Entry is free. Tower Hill and Port Fairy make a relaxed day's outing
Historic Port Fairy

Explore historic Port Fairy, 20 minutes drive from Warrnambool, wander around the old buildings and churches. Over 60 are heritage listed. Stroll along the river front and enjoy fresh fish and chips at the fishing wharf or buy them at the local fish and chip shop in town, which is, according to some, better value. A walk out to the light house will work off the calories to enable you to have afternoon tea at Time and Tide Gallery. Griffith Island is the home to thousands of shear waters who return each evening to feed their young during breeding season.
Coastal Sights

Quiet relaxation Drive along the Ship Wreck Coast and enjoy the spectacular views of London Bridge, The Bay of Islands, The Twelve Apostles and the Loch Ard Gorge. Light refreshments are available at Timboon or Port Campbell has numerous places to enjoy lunch.  This makes a very pleasant day trip. There are no entry fees to any of these sights.
Picture is of the Bay of Islands, which is our favorite area.. Just off the Great Ocean Road is Apostles Whey Cheese where free tastings are available. Timboon Railway Shed Distillery is another temptation, where your sense of history as well as your tastebuds can be excited.

Some friends relax watching the sea from one of our park benches which are set up to enable you to enjoy the full panorama of the sand and surf. It is also a good place to watch whales.

Gardens - Botanic & Fletcher Jones
Warrnambool is lucky to have Botanic Gardens designed by William Guifoyle. They are restful and a lovely place to have picnic on a warm day when you are tired of the beach. Fletcher Jones Pleasant Hill Gardens are heritage protected and very special to Warrnambool. Visits to both these are free.
Logans Beach

Being so close to the beach, our home has many opportunities for people to experience the sand and waves.  Some people just have fun walking and feeling the sand between their toes, and watching the sun set over the ocean.
